Commonly known as black eye pea and called "lobhia" in Hindi is a subspecies of cowpea which is one of the important legume crop grown in semi arid tropic regions covering Asia, Africa, southern Europe, Central and South America. They are an integral part of the cuisine in southern region of India. They are high in proteins and are considered a part of healthy diet.
