It is produced by removing the skin of the black chickpea (small, dark seeds with a rough coat which are mostly cultivated in the Indian Subcontinent) and then splitting the kernel. Chickpeas are very high in dietary fiber hence a good source of carbohydrate for people suffering from diabetes. Also they have a high mineral content like calcium, phosphorus, zinc, iron and magnesium. Recent studies by government agencies have declared that chick pea or Chana Dal helps in lowering cholesterol in the bloodstream.
